As the facility manager for the International Terminal 5, Globetrotters worked with the Department of Human Services and Chicago Department of Aviation to develop a new central office for the Center for Disease Control (CDC) within the lower level of Terminal 5. Globetrotters provided architectural and engineering design and construction management services for the build-out of the new 1,500 SF CDC facility. Its proximity to the International Terminal was required due to the issues of homeland security, international traveler arrivals to Chicago, and the potential need for isolation.
The project involved assessment of the existing tenant space and MEP systems, development of schematic layouts based on the new program, finishes recommendations, preparation of the bidding documents for the interior construction, and assistance with permit applications. All work was completed within the limiting constraints of a 24/7 airport operations.
